He used to be the first to come up to you! But now he's so discouraged, so certain you're not going to pick him, that he just doesn't bother. Poor thing. Won't you come help?

Austin came to Best Friends because his family had a dog that didn't like him.

And finding a new home for this boy would be no easy task! The poor thing is toothless, and has both FIV and feline leukemia.

He used to run out to greet everyone who came to visit. He thought to himself, "Maybe this is the person who is going to take me home!" And he'd get all excited. And he'd rub up against the person and purr when that person pet him and he'd be all set to go because he fell in love with that person and the only way that could happen is if that person fell in love back.

And then that person would leave. Sometimes with another cat. After six years of getting his hopes up, Austin knows better. And so he's gotten sad.

So Austin won't make the first move anymore when people come to visit. But if they come up to him, he falls in love all over again and will enjoy getting all the love they can muster. And then when they leave, his heart breaks. Again.

He gets along with other cats, and with all people. In fact, all he wants in his life are people. Any people. "Pretty please?"
